Edison Chen back in Hong Kong

Edison Chen is back in Hong Kong this morning. A press conference has been called this afternoon at 3 pm (Hong Kong Time).

Update

During the press conference, Edison admitted that he took those sex photos but has never made them public. Subsequently, Edison Chen announced his retirement from the Hong Kong show biz and will be concentrating on doing social work. He has also apologised for the furore that he has created.

Edison Chen Tried To Kill Himself?

Edison Chen, a Hong Kong Celebrity involved in a sex photo scandal, was to return to Hong Kong today to explain himself. However, his return and a media conference was cancelled yesterday.

According to reliable sources, Edison proposed to current girlfriend, Vincy Yeung, in Boston. However, Vincy's family objected to the marriage. Subsequently, Edison slashed his wrists in a final attempt win Vincy over. Edison was rushed to hospital and is said to be in stable condition.

Faced with death threats, Edison's move to marry Vincy was seen as a way out of this mess he created, as Vincy's uncle has long been rumoured to have triad links. But the plan failed and Edison had to stay low.

Worried about his own safety, Edison has also made a police report.

New Photos Appear
After being quiet for 2 days, 2 new photos, previously unseen, appeared yesterday on a HongKong forum. The photos are of low resolution and are believed to be captured from a clip featuring a Rachel Ngan lookalike.

It is strongly believed that there may be more than 1 sex clip, featuring Edison Chen and his play mates, and what we have seen are only teasers. Netizens are hoping that Kira will release the clips soon as promised earlier.

Edison Chen Sex Scandal Goes Into Conspiracy Theories Mode

Rumours have it that Kira (the guy who has been releasing the photos) has been paid 7 million HK dollars to stop the release of more photos or video clips.

According to unconfirmed sources, the photos we have seen so far are screen captures taken from an actual sex clip. It is also alleged that the audio in the clip captured Edison asking Big Brother who was stronger, Edison or Big Brother or Mr. Y. This may mean that more celebrities and high level people were involved in the sex scandal.

As we know, all the photos came in sets which meant that Vincy has a collection too. To protect Vincy, Mr. Y had to pay off Kira.

Kira last upload was the 9th Feb at 4:45 pm and Miss G appeared in a public event on the 11th Feb. She was relaxed and had a big smile because she knew the matter had been settled. Kira most probably received payment on the 10th and fled.

Hours ago, 'Kira' uploaded a clip featuring Maggie Q in a sexual act. But the clip looks suspicious, the female lead resembles Maggie Q but the guy's pistol looks too big to be Edison's. Also, some netizens proved that it was not the original Kira who uploaded the clip.

How will the drama unflold???

Misplaced Sympathy - The Conclusion

First I will like to lift some points from Assoc Prof Lee Wei Ling's letter to The Straits Times Forum on 08 October 05:

On the Nepalese twins:
".... However, the mother and grandfather insisted on coming to Singapore. They refused to let the local surgeon treat the twins...
After my previous letter to ST Forum, I received a letter from Ms Angella Cheng, who is very close to the twins' family and was their guardian when they were in Singapore. She wrote, and I just confirmed over the telephone with her, that the twins' parents' motive for coming to Singapore is to get more sympathy money, which they have actually got while in East Shore Hospital this visit."

On Sillyporeans gullibility:
"... I am disappointed with my fellow Singaporeans' gullibility. Some of you may remember the Indonesian baby with grossly swollen head who landed on our shores not long after the technically successful separation of the Napalese twins.

I will like to add my two cents worth:

On Huang Na's case:
"She brought her daughter to Singapore, hoping to give her a better future."
I remembered seeing this quote in the papers a few times. But have we forgotten the fact that Madam Huang Shuying has tried different means to enter and work in Singapore? She was jailed for overstaying and another time for illegal entry.
The third time she changed an identity and returned as a study mama to continue working here. Now, you see what I see?

On Bai Jin (contributions towards funeral expenses):
As far as I know, Bai Jin is used to help the deceased family in coping with funeral expenses. It is also used to help the family tide over any short term financial hardship, if necessary.
Any excess amount should be kept to meet future expenses on death anniversaries and to upkeep the deceased's final resting place.
Alternatively, the excess Bai Jin can be donated to charitable organization as a mean to help the deceased chalk up good deeds for a smoother passage in the ether world (as believed in Buddishism and Taoism).

The role of the press:
To quote Assoc. Prof Lee again "I cannot resist one last story which illustrates both the propensity of the press to sensationalise and ...."
To borrow words from Eldwin, a regular reader of my humble blog, "I think what we have seen here are case studies of Impression Management. Impressions that people are hard up are magnified, or rather exaggerated, by the media. As a result, the public feel the urge to give out of sympathy when in fact the proposed recipients may not need so much aid. "
I just want to put my point across, there are a lot of needy people out there who are more deserving but do not know where to seek help. For those who turn to the press for help, surely they will be able to find other avenues too.
I believe the press will not allow itself to be used as a tool to milk generous Sillyporeans.

Ps: I just hate to be taken advantage of. By the way, I have stopped giving to charity a long time ago. Instead, I volunteer my time at deserving organizations. Sorry folks, I cant reveal too much about myself, cos I am an angel by day but a devil by night.

Interview with a female prison officer

Miss X (she does not want to be identified) is a lovely young lady, in her early 20s, whom I got to know recently. She looks sporty but very demure. Surprise, surprise! She works in the prison department. After some persuasion, she granted a short interview:

Why did you join the prison department?
An interest in uniform groups.. and partly it's due to my desperation? for a job after my graduation, i joined.

How long have you been on the job?
Coming to two years.

Can tell me a little about what you do?
Locking and unlocking of inmates is a routine... as a personal supervisor, i also conduct purposeful interaction with them.. Censoring of their incoming and outgoing letters.

Is the prison really like those in movies? With gangs and bullying?
Not sure about the men's prison... but in women's prison, I can say there are very little or none.

You look very ladylike and demure, ever being bullied by an inmate?
No. Handling inmates nowadays, depends more on our interpersonal skills. They will manipulate if you don't know how to talk or resaon out with them.

What is the greatest satisfaction you get from your job?
To see offenders given a second chance, for example reintegration programs and home detention. Being able to listen to their background and understand them. A chance to come across all kind of people(inmates) - high profile, unsound mind.

Your views on capital punishment? Do you support the death sentence?
I dont really support the death sentence. Life imprisonment is good enough... but who knows, maybe my mindset will change with times. It's pretty sad to see people killing each other and the news nowadays, one killing after another. It has become a trend and it's like never stopping.

Have u been in contact with an inmate on death row? Can describe how you feel?
Unfortuanately, no. Only selected or more senior officers are able to.

Can tell us the daily routine of a prisoner?
For working inmate, she'll be unlocked every morning for her 8-hours of labour. An hour of lunch time - eat, read newspaper, playing ball games etc. Then back to work again till evening. The rest of the evening will be locked up in her cell. She's entitled to an hour of tv too. Other than that, she gets to go counselling every weekend. For the rest of the inmates, they still do get to go for counselling, her visit etc once or twice every week. But most of the time will be locked up with an hour of free time everyday.

Ps: on my previous post. Cant a guy like sentimental songs?? Just for the record, I am male, 100% straight with a high sex drive too! Its a working night again! Later I will be watching 22 + 3 men running up and down a field, hopefully I can make some money out of it too!

Misplaced Sympathy?

Remember Huang Na? The little girl murdered by Took Leng How.

Its funny. A little girl from China murdered by a Malaysian in Singapore.

At Huang Na's wake, Sillyporeans queued up to offer ~~money~~ donations to the victim's mother. Incidentially, she was previously convicted of overstaying and illegal entry into Singapore, not once but twice! (talk about Yellow Ribbon Project, lesson learnt!)

Thanks to you, Sillyporean. Huang Na's has a grand tomb as a final resting place (which I have no objections) and the family is building a mansion to live in. Meanwhile, the stepfather no longer works. (talk about marrying the right women, lesson learnt!)

However, Took's family is struggling with debts (incurred during the trial) and grief; their son will be murdered at a later date.

Casino Or No Casino?

I know its an outdated issue and the decision is already final. I will like to have my say after reading Mr. Chiam See Tong's comments today, 'Forty years of indoctrination that we should not have that kind of values, that kind of lifestyle. Now they're reversing it... It may bring some income into Singapore, but it'll be painful income for us.' (I am a great supporter of Mr. Chiam but not on this issue.)

I love Sillypore for its peace and stability but I hate it for being a boring place to live in. If you havent noticed, Sillypore is in a state of decline. Sentosa is past its prime, what other attractions do we have? Only the Night Safari is worth a mention.

Orchard Road is supposed to be where our heartbeat is. Really? I dont feel it. Try visiting KL's Bukit Bintang, Hongkong's Nathan Road or New York's Times Square, you get the idea?

Sillypore badly needs a makeover, and we need it fast before the rest catch up. We need new theme parks, entertainment centres and places of interest. However, these attractions dont make much profit so finding an investor will be difficult. (look at Tang Dynasty Village, Haw Par Villa, Chinese Garden....) The casino is like the engine room, the profit centre. With it running, we can support the operations of world class attractions.

I have faith in our gahmen (government). PM Lee's vision for a more vibrant Singapore excites me! I am sure they can pull it off and minimise all the negative impacts of the Casino.

Ps: I cant wait for its opening, it will be my new playground! Forget Genting, Macau and cruise ships. I love gambling, if you didnt know. But its more of a hobby than addiction, also mathematically I can improve my chances against the house odds.

Boring Day

Sorry, no new input today. My inspirations went for a break.

Spent the whole day in front of the computer downloading songs.

In the evening, met up with an old friend and he started introducing network marketing. Entertained him an hour but, in the end, told him I am not keen. He mentioned something like making $5k a month. Well, I can earn the same amount during one weekend of soccer betting!

After that, went for a movie 'The Myth'. I always enjoy Jackie's movies, especially those for asian market. Hmmm..... the opening scenes look very much like his earlier movie Amour of God.

I really cant wait to leave for my well deserved holidays! I have made my plans. From 01 Nov to 15 Nov, I will be in China and Hongkong. 15 Dec till 10 Jan, will be back in China. Hopefully, can celebrate my Christmas in Hongkong, most probably in Disneyland. But before 15 Dec, I will spend a few days in Thailand. Too many friends, so little time!

Dont relax 3/4 tank rule

I totally disagree with Mr Chim Hang Wah's views in his letter, "Ease three-quarter tank rule" (The New Paper, 28 Sep).

I am appalled that such an idea can be conceived.

The implementation of three-quarter tank rule was to deter Singaporeans from patronising our neighbours at the expense of petrol stations here.

Though Mr Chim said the relaxation can be between 2 am and 5 am, how is the Government to determine who really needs this concession?

The fact is that as long as there is a cheap deal on, Singaporeans will flock to it, no matter what time it is.

So I can see jams in Woodlands at 2 am.

I am all for supporting our local economy.

If we dont, who will?

Dollies Gone Wild - The Conclusion

I wrote a piece about them some time back. It generated a lot of feedback, and guess what, I was banned from their tag board. Maybe I was too close to the truth and the truth hurts.

Well, let me say this again: I think they have an entertaining and creative blog. But I hope it stays at that. Please dont give us all that crap of educating young girls, blah, blah, blah.

I have been following the site since day one and it has slowly evolved. They now have a live IRC session, which is sort of a fans club meeting where you go and give them a pat on their back. And of course, you can also go throw eggs at their face but I think you will be banned from their fans club meeting after that.

I hate their hypocrisy, everything seems like a feel good excercise for the dollies. Dont ask for money in the name of charity! In their case, dont ask for fame in the name of altruism.

A regular reader of my blog has this observation: The blog (author) is naive and immature, but what can you expect from a group of kids? They are sheltered and has never stepped into the society. Lets give them their 5 minutes of fame. Someday, they will learn about the hard facts of life.

Ps: it was just a regular fever which I have, like a once a month thingy. Thanks for your concerns. Mdm Kucinta, its a pity its isnt Malaria else can lose alot of weight!

Eye of Brahma also known as Black Orlov

The rare black diamond was once the eye of an idol of the Hindu god Brahma at a shrine near Pondicherry in India.

It was stolen by a monk two centuries ago, and is said to have a curse on it.

Since than, three of its owners have apparently killed themselves, said media reports in Britian, where it is on public display for the first time.

When it was discovered in India in the early 1800s, it weighed 195 carats.

In 1932, soon after buying it, diamond dealer JW Paris jumped to his death from one of New York's tallest buildings.

And 15 years later, a pair of Russian princesses, Nadia Vyegin-Orlov and Leonila Galitsine-Bariatinsky, both leapt to their deaths within a month of each other.

In an attempt to break the curse, the diamond was re-cut into three stones.

The 67.5 carat stone known today as the Black Orlov is set in a 108-diamond brooch suspended from a 124-diamond necklace. (summarized from The New Paper, 24 Sept 2005)

Coloured diamonds are very rare, only one in 10 000. Black diamonds get their colour from the presence of tiny mineral traces, mainly the iron-oxide minerals magnetite and haematite.

Horrible weekend

A real bad weekend. Lost a lot of $$$ on soccer bets. (I have never won a bet involving Man Utd since the start of EPL, jinx or what?)

Than I thought, what the hell? Since lost so much, what is another few hundred? So bought this phone:

But the free bluetooth ear piece cant work. Really down on my luck! So decided to book my ticket to HK before they run out. Finally, confirmed my flight.

Now, I have problem finding a good hotel. Any recomendations? About S$120/night, in Kowloon. I will spend 2 nights in HK and move on to China. I am so excited!!!

Ps: At last, petrol prices have gone down 3 cents per litres (when crude oil prices went down almost US$9). But, they raised it 9 cents the last time round (when crude oil went up US$5). I think I should sell petrol, its real profitable to milk all the suckers who have no alternatives.

Dollies Gone Wild

After visiting their site, I wanted to voice my observations for weeks but couldnt find the time. At last, today is the day.

Before I begin, I applaud their creativity in creating such an entertaining blog. However, I am disturbed by their intentions. Below are my personal observations:

Tunguska Event Mystery

At 7.15 am, 30 June 1908, a large fireball shot past the sky like lightning and exploded above the Tunguska River in Siberia (Russia).

The immediate impact was felt 70 km away. Moments later, seismic tremors were recorded about 900 km away. The tremors travelled around the earth twice! The explosion scorched and levelled, in a butterfly shape, 2000 sq km of Siberian forest. (about 3 times the size of Singapore) For several weeks, the night sky was exceptionally bright throughout Europe and Western Siberia.

Due to internal conflicts and a lack of resources, the first expedition reached the site only in 1930. It was led by Professor Leonid Kulik.

There were many theories trying to explain the event: alien spaceship crashed? Nuclear explosion? Meteorite? Testing of a new military weapon?

The most logical explanation was that a medium sized meteorite exploded in mid air. Scientists believe the meteorite was reduced to dust and dispersed high into the atmosphere. This dust was carried around the globe. The help to explain 2 facts: firstly, why there was no crater at the site. Secondly, the strange glow in the night sky was caused by the dust reflecting sunlight.

Subsequent expedition found particles of dust which scientific tests found a close match with similar dust collected in Antarctica.

Sillypore Update 13 Sept.

Employment growth in first half of 2005 highest in 4.5 years

According to the Labour Market Report, we have more jobs created and lower unemployment rates than last year.

I guess the good times are coming back. Sillypore has been stagnant for a long time. However, the prospects in the next 5 years is real rosy! The gahmen (government) is going to remake the island, making it more vibrant. It will give our tourism industry a much needed shot in the arm.

I hate to say this but we have one of the most efficient gahmen in the world. We are almost corruption free, a garden city, good economics policies, have leaders with great foresight, low crime rate. Well, the list goes on.........

Missing you

I didnt manage to resist the temptation and went to check out her friendster account. Hmmm.... she looks thinner but from her bright smile, I know she is getting on fine. I guess we all got to get on with our life, with or without the person we miss.

The wounds are old but the pain is still intense. Time will never heal my wounds, it will just let me get used to the pain.

My Netgear Router is cranky

My router has been acting strange since 3 days back. It will drop my connection after 2 to 3 hours. I have to on and off the router and my connection will be back (I am using Maxonline). I have a home network and this is bad! Anyone can help?? I am using Netgear WGT624 v2.

Netgear technical helpline is 8001301252. I got in touch with them 3 times yesterday, nothing they advised helped. They say, Netgear will replace my 3 months old router.

I am suppose to call 6512 9250. I did and was referred to call 6233 6810.

The first call at 12 15 pm today, they said the tech guy was out for lunch. They took my number and said would return my call. They promised to when I make them swear!

The second call I made was at 2 30 pm. A sweet voice asked me to call the first number 6512 9250. I told her I did and was referred to her. She took my number and again promised to get the right person to call me, I made her swear too! (should have gotten her handphone nos.)

An hour has passed, I am still waiting.......... (to be continued)

Pre-Marital Sex

I support pre-marital sex. (sex before marriage with someone you really love, not fuck around)

Catholics are going to get me for this. Pardon me, I know the Bible says this and that. But hey, times have changed. Maybe, just maybe, we should have a new edition to match the expectation of modern times. This is blasphemous! I shall stop here.

Sex is 50% of relationship, the other half consist of love and responsibility. If you cant satisfy your partner in bed, the chances of him/her straying will be high. Sex is no longer a tool for procreation, its recreation!

What if you only discover the sexual incompatibility after marriage? Without a happy sex life, you will be heading to add count to our high divorce rate. (By the way, I prefer cohabitation before marriage too.)

Most arguments against pre-marital sex revolves around STD (sexually transmitted disease), unwanted pregnancy and keeping the best for your other half.

Man, by nature, are polygamous animals, anyhow they will still sleep around. And more women are doing the same. To keep STD or unwanted pregnancy in check, there are prevention methods. What we really need is a good public education programme! Sex education from young??

Sad but true, 8 out of 10 girls I know lose their virginity before age 21. (the other 2 have never had a boyfriend) Why fight a losing battle by advocating chaste before marriage? If you cant beat them, join them and play by their rules.

My suggestion, do it the Sillypore way: Raise the legal age of sexual consent to 18, throw those who flout the rules into prison.

The Petrol Cartel in Sillypore

When oil prices went up to US$70.85, about 8 days back, all the petrol companies raised their pump prices by 9 cents.

Today crude oil prices have eased to US$65.47, a drop of 7.5%. WHEN? Are we going to see pump prices adjustments?

Please do not conveniently increase pump prices when crude oil prices move up and keep quiet when prices go down. We are not fools!

Many years back, the gahmen (read: government), implemented the 3/4 tank rule so to make it not viable for drivers to top up petrol in M'sia. The reason given was 'to protect our infant petrol industry'. Well, years have passed and they have grown to become the Petrol Mafia.

So Mr. Gahmen, how???

Retribution

Retribution: punishment imposed for purposes of repayment or revenge for the wrong committed.

I know of a friend, many years back, who hated cats. He would go around catching these lovely feline and slaughtering them in his kitchen. After chopping them up, he would store them in his freezer.

It is so disgusting and cruel. I think he is mentally disturbed.

One day, while chasing a cat across a road, he was knocked down by a car. He died on the spot.

Justice served?

I have hurt a girl who loved me dearly for many years, by leaving her for someone I believed to be my 'true love'. However, my 'true love' dumped me after eight months. Of course, I was devastated!

Yes, I believe in retribution.

4. Slow service. Remembered once I went to a restaurant in Ipoh. We ordered 5 drinks. Guess how many trips the waitress made to serve our drinks? 6 trips. First, brought 3 bottles of drinks. Next, trip returned with another 2 bottles. Than 3 glasses. 2 glasses on a return trip. Next came a pail of ice. Finally, came the bottle cap opener. This is classic man!!!

Final Episode: Project Superstar Grand Finals

Congrats to Kelvin Tan for winning!

What I have learnt from watching Project Superstar Grand Finals:

1. You dont need talent to win a talent quest.

2. Sillypore is a democratic society, everyone (including the handicapped) is given an equal opportunity. (some more equal than others though)

3. Sympathy is a powerful weapon.

4. We need controveries. China Super Female Voice (my translation) has a winner who can pass off as my brother. American Idol contestant slept with a judge. And we have a visually handicapped winner for Project Superstar.

And finally,

5. Money rules!!!

Michel De Nostradamus Part II

Before you begin, please:

Read the introduction about the Prophet, Nostradamus.

Read the translation of his 942 quatrains.

I want to share with you an interesting theory.

If time travel is a reality in the future, than Nostradamus might have been visited by a Time Traveller.

In order to prove the success of time travel, one would have to go back in time and leave evidence so that the future will be able to see it and conclude the experiment a success. However, he (Time Traveller) cannot alter any events else the future will be changed or worse, be destroyed.

Therefore, Nostradamus might have received some form of message from the Time Traveller and recorded it down in his quatrains. These quatrains cannot describe the 'predictions' clearly, in case someone were to alter the course of history. This can explain why the quatrais become clear only after the event has occurred.

John Titor, another Time Traveller, might have left evidence in our time (2002) in another experiment conducted by the future.

Alaskan malamute

An Alaskan malamute was left unattended in a backyard of a terrace house without water and shelter. The three-year-old died of heat stroke.

The owner, events manager Lee Bee Leong, has been previously advised by SPCA to keep the dog in a cool place and provide lots of drinking water.

Mr. Lim was convicted and fined $3000. (Source: The Straits Times, 26 Aug 05)

What?!?! Only $3000?

This is murder! He should at least be packed to jail for a few weeks. $3000 is just a slap on the wrist. (incidentally, I lost about that amount during the weekend on EPL. Damn Chelsea n Man U.)

Dogs are man's best friend. They are intelligent, loyal and provide us with great companionship. Its a life, you know? So what if they are less intelligent than humans or cant express themselves? Does that mean I can go torture a mute with a low IQ and get away with murder?

I proposed to put the inhuman son of a beach under the hot sun for 8 hours without water and shelter. He should get a taste of the slow and painful death suffered by the dog.

To the Alaskan malamute: Rest in peace, for you have completed your task on earth. I know you will be in a faraway place, a beautiful place without sufferings or pains. You will be rewarded and never have to go hungry or thirsty again. (In memory of all the lovely canines who have left us, especially my beloved Lucca & Saibo.)

Another life lost

Took sentenced to die. Another life terminated prematurely.

Justice is served? You mean a life for a life. An eye for an eye? You barbaric or what? Cant we forgive and forget?

Lets examine what has it achieved:

Here's what Huang Na's mum said: Justice done. But nothing can bring my Na-er (the victim) back. (yes, justice is served. Surely, there are other forms of punishment too.)

Took's family is devastated. Apart from suffering financially, they are ostracized by the public. (people, they are innocent!)

Finally, the fact that Took surrendered himself after escaping from Singapore showed that he might be remorseful. He could have easily stayed away and escape punishment so shouldnt he be given a chance? I am not suggesting to set him free but a long prison term should suffice.

"But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful."

Michel de Nostradamus Part I

Nostradamus was born 14 Dec 1503 in France. He studied medicine, herbalism, maths, astronomy, astrology, liberal arts and many languages.

During the Black Death (bubonic plague), he successfully lessen the impact of the plague in Aix and received hero status. However, years later his wife and 2 children were killed by the plague.
Heartbroken, he packed and traveled around Italy and France. He finally settled in France in 1554 and remarried. A year later, he began his career as a prophet.

He wrote a total of 942 quatrains (4 lines verses) in 10 centuries (chapters). His prophecies are obscure before the predicted event, but become clear after the event has occurred.

The Prophet predicted his own death. On 01 July 1566, when his assistant wished him 'Goodnight'. He replied 'you will not find me alive at sunrise.' He was dead in the morning.

In century 9, quatrain 7, he wrote:

"He who will open the tomb found,
And will come to close it promptly,
Evil will come to him, and one will be unable to prove,
If it would be better to be a Breton or Norman King."

During the French Revolution in 1791, a group of drunken soldiers opened his tomb. All of them, were reputedly, killed on their way back to camp.

You might have seen these:

"In the year of the new century and nine months,
From the sky will come a great King of Terror...
The sky will burn at forty-five degrees.
Fire approaches the great new city..."

"In the City of God there will be a great thunder,
Two brothers torn apart by Chaos,
while the fortress endures,
the great leader will succumb,
The third big war will begin when the big city is burning"

They referred to Sept 11 2001?

False! The first one was put together from different quatrains. The second one was written by a university student in 1997 in an essay about Nostradamus.

Project Superstar: Kelly Poon VS Kelvin Tan

Sorry folks! This topic has generated a lot of traffic from the search engine to my site, so must strike the iron while its hot.

Can I offer you an insight into the competitive but cruel world of entertainment?

For every Superstar that you see, there are probably hundreds waiting at the sideline for their chance. Everyday, record companies talent scout potential candidates. In a month, they may have signed 2 to 5 new singers. These new recruits are put through training and receive a miserable allowance from the record company.

When they are ready, they will get to record their album. After that (normally 3 to 6 months later), the company will decide if the market is ready for a new artiste. If the market condition does not permit, the new singer will be canned. For how long? We dont know. There are cases where new recruits wait out their 1 or 2 years contract without releasing a single album.

For Kelly and Kelvin, its a make or break situation because they are already in the limelight. Kelvin Tan is a better bet. He can be packaged as a hero who overcame the odds to achieve his goals. Who cares whether its sympathy votes or real appreciation for his talents? As long as his album sells, everyone (the record company) is happy.

Kelly will be slightly disadvantaged. I dont think her personality nor her voice is outstanding. She may be able to make it in Sillypore but overseas will be a big question mark. That is no use, because how many albums can u sell here?

Sad to say, its just boils down to dollars and cents for the company.

Sleepless in Sillypore?

10 practical jokes you can pull off at 4 a.m.

Before you start, have the following ready:

An unlisted home telephone number.
A copy of Saturday's classified ads.
A pre-paid SIM card.
Another accomplice to enjoy the moment together.

Here we go:

Call a friend, see previous post.
Check the properties/cars classified. Look for those that entertain calls 24 hours. Call them and enquire about that property/car that is advertised.
Call the 24 hrs electrician. Tell him your house had a short circuit and ask him to come immediately. Give your neighbour's address and your pre-paid SIM card number.
Find two flats with lots of shoes outside. Take all the left sided shoe from each house and exchange them.
When your neighbour's newspaper is delievered, exchange it with a copy of last week's paper of the same day.
With all the lights off in your house, drop many marbles/nails. Quickly clear up and stay real quiet, in case your neighbour come aknocking.
Between intervals of 20 minutes, order the cheapest item from the fast food delivery. Warn the operater that the order should arrive under 45 minutes, else order is cancelled. Repeat 3 times. See if your food arrives 20 minutes apart.
Look in the classified ads, find as many pager number as you can. Page each of them and leave another salesman handphone number from the classified. Do it twice and leave two different call back numbers.
Arrange all the shoes from all your neighbours' flat, all the way down the stairs. (see photo)
Help your neighbours re-arrange their plants in a straight row along the corridor.

At 5 am this morning, we (myself and a friend who slept over) couldnt sleep so we decided to call some friends.

Dialing May's number (another friend of mine)...........

May: Heellooo..... (very sleepy)

My friend: Hey, you still sleeping? I am waiting downstairs for you, we are going jogging, right?

May: Huh? Whos that??? (still sounding very sleepy)

My friend: Ben lah, quick washup and come down!

May: I am not Stephenie! (a bit annoyed)

My friend: Oh! Sorry! Wrong number, so sorry! (quickly hang up)

May: Heellloooo? (wow, I guess she went back to sleep again)

My friend (speaking very quickly): Hey! Stephenie, I tell you, very funny. Just now called wrong number and spoke to the girl very long. Thought it was you!

May: You crazy ah? I told you I AM NOT STEPHENIE. (must be fully awake by now)

Silly ranting

Many sites hosted in the US were down today. Wonder why?

I have so much traffic these two days. (Should have more, if not for the down time.) Thanks to Blog Introduction and a young chick, pearlsofpink.

She gave me some very constructive criticisms but more importantly, site referrals. I am sorry that my English is not that powderful, just for your info, I only completed PSLE. I very Hokkien pie one, you know?

Project Superstar

Project Superstar is a Chinese talent quest contest.

Kelly Poon Kar Lai won the female section. See her performance in clip 1, clip 2.

Tan Wei Lian is the male winner. See his performance in clip 1, clip 2.

As with all competitions, there must be controversies.

1. Kelly has taken music lessons under two of the judges (source: Shin Min).

2. Kelly was eliminated in the quarter finals, but she made it thru the revival round and went on to win the competition. Strange but dramatic huh? (I predicted so when she was revived.)

3. Tan Wei Lian, who is visually handicapped, caused an uproar when he won (by the way, I voted for him too). Viewers asked how can a blind be a Superstar? I say, why not? Havent you heard of Stevie Wonder? From a marketing point of view, there isnt another handicapped recording artist so that makes Wei Lian a good package. He can be an inspiration too.

4. Wei Lian won because of sympathy votes? Well, put it this way: Irregardless of a black or white cat, as long as it catches mice, its a good cat! If you suckers (including me) are willing to pay and vote for him, than surely you will buy his album. (thats all it matters to the music company!)

5. True to the style of Sillypore, the voting is NOT transparent!

Let me make a bold prediction: Kelly will win the grand finals, Wei Lian will cut an album after the finals. So both will be winner!

Maid Abuse

Hits head with a pair of jeans, VCD cover and tomato sauce bottle.
Kicks and punches head. Slaps face, pulls hair and pushes head against wall.
Pokes eye with fingernail.
Hits hand with thermometer.
Jabs chest with elbow.
Pinches right hand.
Bends fingers of both hands.
Beats her with coconut.
Hits foot with plastic chopping board.

Torture during Japanese Occupation? No.

These are methods Suzarina Madzin (strange? Why most offenders are female?) used to abuse her Indonesian maid over a period of ten months.

Barbaric? Uncivilised? Inhuman? Beast? How else can I describe it?

Wake up! Maids are not slaves or animals. They ARE also a fellow human being. You got money, big fuck? Can do as you please?

These maids have to leave their family and come to a strange environment. They are all alone here and homesick. Surely, we dont have to add to their misery, right?

Treat them with a little respect. Go ahead, reprimand them when they make a mistake but have patience. On the other hand, do you give them a sweet when they have done well?

I hate it when children scream at their maid. Parents, its time to teach your young rascal some manners and respect. Else we have another maid abuser in the making!

Let me share this with you. I treat my family's maid with respect. I always say 'please' and 'thank you'. Occasionally, I buy her chocolates or snacks. My family also demand her to be well-groomed at all times. She looks more like (if only she is fairer) a family member than a maid.

For your info, Suzarina is looking at a jail term of 1 1/2 years on each charge, or a fine of up to $15 000 or both. But I propose: Why not send her to a third world country and do 1000 hours (8 hrs a day, for 4+ months only) of community service? She will return a better person. Trust me!

Sex & Lust.

Our world is ruled by sex and lust.

Cosmetic, botex, perfume, slimming centre...... what are they for? To improve your appearance and most importantly sex appeal. How many times have, you guys, regretted the choice of your one night-stand the morning after? Its misleading after all that make-up, the dim lightings and lots of booze.

Blogs with sexual contents are popular, especially written by female bloggers. wanna find overnight fame? Just strip and post. Of course, you must have lots of beauty and a little brains to go with it.

My favourite idols are Song Hye Kyo and Tao Zi (Taiwanese host). Why? If only i can get them laid. Song is a beauty, the kind that is submissive and gentle (my perception) and surely I can teach her a trick or two. But after sometime it will get boring. Tao should be wild and witty (my perception again), sparks should fly. And we can have fun for a long time. Don't give me that kind of disgusted look! I know many girls who want to wake up next to Andy Lau, Nicolas Tse or Beckham. (And I know many that have done so and felt so satisfied.) That's the reason they are superstars. The more people fantasize about them, the more popular they become.

Why do most men work so hard? (One of the reasons) To earn enough to buy that new coupe to increase their appeal to the opposite sex (sometimes to the same sex, who knows?). Women need more money to dress up and look good. What for? To get laid.

Sorry, folks. The truth is ugly. It hurts!

An Inspiration

Mr. Ho, then 16, was diagnosed with a spinal condition which causes paralysis. He is confined to a motorized wheelchair and has limited use of his arms and hands.

Despite his disabilities, he completed his diploma in legal studies and now supports himself by working as a data entry clerk at a prestigious law firm. (Picture and story from The New Paper on 15 Aug 05.)

Mr. Ho Chee Siong, I salute you!

Though perseverance and determination, he has achieved self-sufficiency.

I am so ashamed of myself. I have dreams and aspirations too. However, I am too lazy to step out of my comfort zone. I love procrastination, there is always a tomorrow!

Do you know that 90% of us love to stay in the comfort zone? Only 10% do things differently. It is this 10% that will achieve some form of success.

In my eyes, Mr. Ho is a winner; a hero! I have to do some serious soul searching. Why he can? Why I cant?

Principles of City Management

Here's what I realised when playing SimCity:

1. Why produce cars when you can sell the entitlement to own one?

2. Make them pay to drive to the office in the mornings. Than make them pay to drive home in the evenings.

3. Sell all properties at 99 years lease. Forcefully acquire the freehold or 999 years and move them to a 99 years leasehold.

Long long time ago, in a far far away island. There was a man, Anddy, who wanted to be the President. It was his childhood dream. Hey! Every kid wants to be the President.

Anddy worked his way up, by hook or by crook, to meet the criteria to run for office.

However, the ruling party did not like the idea. They did not want an outsider to poke his nose into their affairs.

They had a plan. Anddy's past was put to close scrutiny. His past employers told everyone he had 'required a fair bit of hand holding in his job'. Another said he was 'not honest and had taken them for a spin'.

Anddy was devastated. His dreams were shattered. he remained a broken man.

Moral of the story?
Never join a party uninvited. The host may chase you away with a broom!

They used to be at Sembawang, Andrews Ave. Now its at 140B Piccadilly Road (Tel: 64820244). Its inside Seletar Camp, near the East Camp.

The main draw for me is the ambience. We dine under the stars and candle light, very romantic. As for the food, try the home-made soup and the buffalo wings. The wings' spicyness is ranked from level 1 to 10. We tried the level 2 and its already shiok! The rest of the stuff is good too. They basically serve american food. The four of us spent about $120 (1 clam chowder, half dozen buffalo wings, 2 steaks, 2 fish n chips and 4 drinks). Its worth every cents!

Sillypore is ranked 10th in 2004 for the most number of executions per million population. Most of our criminals are hung for drug trafficking and murder offenses. The execution, by hanging, is carried out every Friday morning with little details made known to the public.

Terminating someone's life before his natural death is like playing God. Human life is precious, nobody has the right to take it away. Moreover, two wrongs do not make a right.

Capital punishment achieves nothing. It does not bring the murdered victim back to life. It also serves to punish the love ones and family members of the prisoner. If you are thinking that it reduces or puts a lid on the crime rate, think again. Potential criminals always think they will never get caught or when they have to worry about their next meal, being put to death is the last thing on their mind.

Looking at a would-be criminal psychological profile, he would most probably be abused or subjected to a violent upbringing. He may also be neglected. Under such circumstances, can you blame him for not having the right morals? Shouldnt the society be partly responsible for him going astray? Almost all those on death row have a sad past to tell. Since they are a product of our society, than the society should give them a chance to repent. There must be a more appropriate punishment and rehabilitation than to hang them.

In Sept 2000, the Pope expressed his hope "that there no longer be recourse to capital punishment, given that states today have the means to efficaciously control crime, without definitively taking away an offender's possibility to redeem himself".

Last, but not least, is the accused really guilty as charged? What if there is a mistake? What if.....? Death is irreversible.

Happy National Day!

Have you ever wonder why it doesnt rain during our National Day Parade?

Do you believe that we can control the weather?

Let me share with you a real life incident. I did not witness the event myself but heard it thru a senior. And this person who experienced and related it to me, is trustworthy, so there is no reason for me to disbelief.

It was our Scout's annual campfire. Many months of preparation went into the event. At about 7 pm, the sky turned dark and it started to rain. This would had ruined the campfire. A few of our adult leaders, who were staunch Christians, started to pray. After 10 minutes, the rain went away and out came the sun for a few minutes. It was a miracle! Many others witnessed the event and subsequently converted to Christianity.

Do you believe?

Let me share a Taoist way to stop the sky from pouring. You need a satay stick, a big red chilli and a big onion. Pierce the sharp end of the stick through the end of the chilli, lengthwise. Than poke through the centre of the onion and push the stick all the way through. Find an open space and stand the whole stick on the ground with the chilli facing upwards to the sky. This only works when its drizzling or before a downpour.

Well, with regards to the National Day Parade, rumour says that they always get some monks to chant for good weather before the event. I cant verify this, if you know something, please email me.

Quick, put in some nice comments for me. Its my birthday today!

I grew up as a very independent person. I remembered when I was 12, I took my savings and bought myself a Smurf (if you got no idea what it is, click here) as a birthday gift for myself.

The most memorable birthday was my 21th. Its the only time which I held a party at East Coast chalet. It was attended by all my friends and a special group of people from Teleview (something like our IRC now, but this was before the Internet was born) chat room.

Today was no different from any other day. Same old shit, different day.

You must be wondering why I have few friends. Its a realistic world out there, my friend. Most friendships are built on mutual benefits. These people I call them acquaintances (I have, which can fill many truckloads), I dont divulge much about myself to them.

True friends are people who stand by you through thick and thin (I have, but can only fill one salon car). Thank you! Willment, Esmond, Jeremy and Wendy. I love you all!

Did you watch Armageddon (the Chinese show starring Andy Lau)? Or read Charles Dickens' Bleak House?

Both mentioned Spontaneous Human Combustion (SHC), the human body going up in flames suddenly. There were more than 200 cases recorded since ancient time, proven or otherwise.

The most talked about case happened in 02 July 1951 (see photo). A 67 years old widow, Mary Reeser, was found dead by her landlord. Only a small corner of the living room was burnt. And less than 10% of her 170 pounds body mass was left. Her left foot remained intact and the walls were covered with greasy soot.

There are many similarities in most of the SHC cases. Firstly, most victims are female (female has more fats. Girls its true, you are fat!), overweight and alcoholics. Next, only portions of the head, legs and arms are intact. Some clothings may be intact. Also, most victims were alone and drank heavily prior to death. Finally, a yellow liquid is usually found near the body, while the walls and ceiling are found to be greasy.

What happened? Did they really burst into flame for no reason?

The most accepted theory is the Candle Effect. The combustion is not spontaneous, there is always a source of ignition (Mary Reeser was a smoker). Since the victims drank heavily, they are knocked out cold and are unable to seek help. Their clothes will act as a wick and the melted body fats become the fuel. Even though the body is cremated at 1300 deg C; 250 deg C will be sufficient to turn the body into ash under prolonged burning.

The last recorded case (I found while researching) happened on 24 Mar 1997 in Ireland.

Is it retribution? Supernatural? Or bull shit?

Have you taken your lunch? I just came back from Lavender Food Court.

There is this popular 'Wan Tun Mee' stall. My friend, George, joined the very long queue while I ordered my food. 20 minutes later, I have finished my food but he was still in the queue. Another 10 minutes passed, it was his turn. He carried his tray of food and returned gleefully to our table. In 5 minutes, he wolfed down his noodles. Hmmm..... 30 minutes of waiting for 5 minutes of pleasure.

Do you have Goals in your life? Did you persevere to reach them?

If you are really determined to enjoy the noodles, you would have queued; even for an hour. Nothing would have detract you, right? Put this in your life, do you give up easily?

George has the hunger and in the end he reached his goal and got his reward. If you have the same hunger, you will go all out to achieve what you have set to do!

It seems like the last article was well received. Here's another one:

It happened during my Basic Military Training (BMT) in Palau Tekong.

During my first two weeks of BMT, I was on MC for a medical condition (always sick huh??). There was this ceremony which issued the new recruits with their weapon and it was conducted in the evening. It was a solemn ceremony and all lights had to be turned off, only candle lights were allowed.

I did not have to attend and stayed in my bunk (dormitory). The time was 8 pm. Since I had nothing to do, I decided to take a bath. Using a candle, I made my way to the toilet. I was taking a bath when someone walked in. He started chatting with me. Asking why I did not attend the ceremony and stuff like that. He also told me that he was from Echo company and was on MC. After my bath, I went to the wash basin to wash my laundry. That guy was standing behind me (I saw him when I came out of the bath) and we continued to chat. When I looked up into the mirror, there was no one behind me. I looked again to confirm, but was sure I couldn't see him even though he was behind me. Suddenly, my hair stood on ends. Without hesitation, I dashed out of the toilet and ran all the way down 4 levels and hid outside the admin office (there are staffs in the office).

After calming myself (about 15 mins), I returned to the toilet and collected my laundry. Luckily, he wasn't waiting for me.

The next day, I went around asking (particularly, the company he claimed he was from) if there were such a person staying back the previous night. No one was on MC except for me!

The following days, my story went around and I sort of became a celebrity. Everyone wanted to hear it personally from me. Finally, some Officer spoke to me and told me to stop causing fear. He also hinted that I had indeed met something special.......
